Yanga Mjoli

5 Drive, Mon. - Fri.; 15:00 - 18:00

Hailing from Mpumalanga, Yanga started out on radio last year on a regional radio station. An only child, Yangs says may be the reason why she has a curious nature, ridiculously random imagination and out of the box thoughts.  She is currently studying psychology and communications degree and is obsessed with needing to know why people act, react and respond in the ways they do to pretty much anything. She hates the thought of not being knowledgeable on certain topics or subjects, so is a voracious reader and researcher on new things. Her favourite quote comes from a poem by Geoffrey Chaucer - time and tide wait for no man.

What do you love most about radio?

I love that I get be a part of people’s lives even if for three hours, regardless of what they are doing at that moment. I also appreciate and look forward to the bits of wisdom that listeners impart on me regarding issues affecting the world, the country and us all. The one thing I love most is listening to the love that people have for radio and where that love comes from because radio has always played such a significant role in my life.

How long have you been on radio?

I have been on radio for 10 months. I started my journey on radio in July 2020 at a regional radio station as an intern and started officially reading for the station on weekends in October that same year.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time I love reading, painting, and baking. Looking up strange and interesting facts and baking is also quite high on that list. I also do get caught up in historically themed movies and series.

What knowledge do you love imparting onto your listeners?

I love making and being made aware of the different perspectives we all have on life and how our experiences shape the views we have on current affairs and topics. I also think it is necessary to express the importance of kindness and understanding, especially when it comes to how we interact with one another.

What daily motivation do you believe contributes to your success over the airwaves daily?

My mother is a major driving force for me. Being raised by an independent single parent who made a number of sacrifices and choices that allowed me to be in the position I am in today, working at a station I have always dreamed of working at, makes me want to be better every single day.

What has been your favourite moment on radio, any campaign you can share and why did you love it so much, what did you enjoy most about working with said brand?

The Discovery campaign was amazing.  Listening to how excited and how involved our listeners were and how happy and excited they were to win really was amazing. I love the fact that Discovery along with 5FM, was able to have a positive impact on a people’s lives.
