On What to Watch, #5Drive's Nadia Romanos chats to actors Arnold Vosloo (The Mummy), Thabo Rametsi (Kalushi: the Story of Solomon Mahlangu), Stefan Erasmus and award-winning director Mandla Dube about Silverton Siege – a South African hostage thriller based on true events that occurred in Pretoria in 1980.
The film follows a trio of freedom fighters, Umkhonto weSizwe (MK), who, while on a high-profile mission to sabotage a petrol depot, realize they have been set up, with police ready and waiting to arrest them. A fierce and deadly chase ensues which sees them seeking shelter inside a Bank. As the Trio recognize their only options are prison or death, they decide to negotiate for the release of Nelson Mandela, sparking the global “Free Nelson Mandela” movement.
